MEET ANNAMARIE
I know that choosing a therapist can feel overwhelming, so let me introduce myself a little bit. I’m Annamarie, a Registered Clinical Counsellor and Clinical Hypnotherapist offering online counselling across British Columbia.
My path to counselling was not linear. I studied linguistics, taught English abroad, became a neurofeedback technician, and eventually found my way to counselling through my work at a medical clinic, where I became fascinated by hypnotherapy and the mind- body connection. Along the way, I realized that what I really wanted was to work one-on-one with people.
There was something about hypnotherapy that felt a little like magic—the possibility that our minds could create change through metaphor, symbolism, and exploring worlds deep within yourself. I loved that sense of wonder, and I still do. Today, I bring that curiosity into therapy, drawing from approaches including mind-body counselling, EMDR therapy, and clinical hypnotherapy.
Perhaps the most hopeful thing I have learned through counselling is how much people can change. I have watched clients attitudes and plans for the future shift 180°—sometimes after years of living with pain, fear, or trauma. Healing doesn't follow one timeline—it can happen much sooner than we expect when the right approach meets the right person at the right time. Other times, a long-lasting therapeutic relationship can be the missing piece of self-care you need.
Above all, I want you to experience safety in counselling. I want you to feel safe, heard, and understood in our work, and gradually learn to feel safer within your own body. My hope is that this becomes something you can carry with you beyond our sessions:
safe with me → safer within yourself → able to carry that safety into the world.
I also believe therapy can be an experience of healing, as well as curiosity, discovery, imagination, and playfulness. Room for seriousness—but also for reconnecting with the parts of ourselves that may have been forgotten: our sense of wonder, creativity, and even a little bit of
Outside of work
I am from Vancouver Island and therefore have a deep love for nature and a touch of hippie in me. I’m introverted and have always felt more at home in one-on-one conversations than in large social settings. I was homeschooled and often felt a little like a weirdo—which, in retrospect, I’ve come to appreciate.
I love travel, jalapeños, fantasy fiction, and sketching. I prioritize my own hypnotherapy and movement, and being mindful about what I surround myself with. I love spending time with my family, especially my nephews, and I’m happiest when life has a balance of connection, curiosity, creativity, and room to explore. I guess that is what I hope to bring to you.
